As the Sportspark celebrates its quarter century, a new film reveals its story through the eyes of those it has inspired, supported by a rich collection of archive images.
Since opening at the University of East Anglia (UEA) campus in 2000, Sportspark has become the home of sport in the region, delivering everything from grassroots community programmes to elite-level sporting events.

The centre now welcomes over 1.3 million visitors every year, providing accessible, world-class facilities for fitness, swimming, athletics, team sports, and wellbeing.

Phil Steele, Director of Sport and Commercial Services at UEA, said: “We’re so proud of what Sportspark has become over the last 25 years, this anniversary is not just about celebrating our facilities but about honouring the people who bring them to life – the students, the community, and the staff who have made Sportspark a home for sport, health and friendship.”

Prof David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor at UEA, said:"For 25 years, UEA Sportspark has been a cornerstone of excellence, inclusion and wellbeing, for students, staff, and the wider community. More than a facility, it’s a place where potential is realised and lives are enriched.
"We’re proud of its lasting impact and excited for the role it will continue to play in shaping a healthier, more connected future for our region.”
The video is available to view on YouTube and can also be found on Sportspark’s Facebook and Instagram, website, and on digital screens within the centre.
As part of the celebrations, Sportspark will also extend its ‘Wall of Fame’ on the upstairs balcony to showcase the past five years of its history, including Sportspark’s role in hosting NHS camps during the Covid-19 lockdowns, and sporting successes such as UEA student Amy Middlemas competing at the FISU Powerlifting Championships.
This milestone is both a celebration of Sportspark’s proud history and a chance to look ahead to the future of sport and wellbeing in Norwich.
