Support for young people

If you want to talk to someone about anything that’s going on in your life, there are many great resources out there with people who will listen for free. Here is a list of organisations that can offer advice and support for LGBTQ young people.

ChildLine on 0800 1111 for free confidential help.

The Mix: free confidential help for young people under 25 0808 808 4994

Coram Voice: help and assistance for care leavers. Call for free at 0808 800 5792 or email help@coramvoice.org.uk.

Stonewall on 08000 502020 for free, confidential help from an LGBT organisation. Also see Young Stonewall for discussion groups for young people.

Queer Youth Network for an on-line community aimed at young LGBTQ people

Support for foster carers

Fostering Network and CoramBAAF provide resources and assistance to foster carers on a number of different issues.

Stonewall provides links to support and services for families of LGBT young people and also welcome enquiries at education@stonewall.org.uk or 08000 50 20 20.

Mermaids--provides support for families of transgender young people via mailing lists as well as through phone 03443 340550 and email info@mermaidsuk.org.uk

Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (FFLAG) offers booklets and resources on how to support young people as well as information on parent support groups across the UK
