Mirela - one of our Romanian students

Hi everyone, I am Mirela and I am one of the EU Ambassadors here at UEA.

I am studying Energy Engineering with Environmental Management as an undergraduate degree, currently doing my second year, and I am originally from Romania.

One of the main reasons I chose UEA is because of its position in the East of England – a region well-known for renewable energy and for its academic reputation and history of 50 years of Environmental Sciences. The next reason was that it just clicked with me. UEA felt like home long time before I actually came here and it made me feel like I belonged the second I set foot on campus.

As a passionate environmentalist, and an engineering student, I love how UEA’s campus balances the concrete jungle with the natural beauty surrounding it. It has many teaching facilities such as the New Science Building that was inaugurated in 2019. But it also has the beautiful lake that is perfect for a walk to disconnect from studies and connect with nature, lots of green spaces and trees and in spring you can find bunnies all around.

I have spent my first year in on-campus accommodation and it was a lovely experience. I was five minutes away from all my lecture rooms and I could always come back during breaks and have a nap or have some tea and relax!

One of my favorite things about UEA is the fact that it allowed me to continue my passion for volunteering. I have tried so many new activities and CareerCentral offers a great amount of opportunities – not only for volunteering. But the best thing about UEA is the people – everyone here is eager to help, to answer questions and make sure your student journey is as enjoyable as possible and I am grateful for that!

UEA is home to more than 4,000 students from outside the UK and we welcome students from Romania to join our vibrant community.
