If you are an ambitious and talented researcher exploring your options for an externally funded Research Fellowship, such as the Fellowship schemes supported by the Research Councils UK, a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship or a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship we would love to hear from you.

We can offer you a vibrant research community in which you can develop and flourish alongside researchers from across disciplines, who work on projects ranging from fundamental research to applied work that has an impact on society in the UK and internationally. As our Research with Us pages explain, our specialist team can support you through the application process.

You may choose to bring your Fellowship to one of the Research Centres linked to the Faculty of Social Science, including the Centre for Competition Policy, Centre for Behavioural and Experimental Social Science, Centre for Research on Children and Families and the Water Security Research Centre or to one of our Schools of Study.

The Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships aim to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers but who have a proven track record of research.  The expectation is that the Fellow should undertake a significant piece of publishable work but the project put forward should not be a reworking or extension of their doctoral research project.

Each year the Faculty supports a limited number of Fellowship applications to this scheme. UEA is committed to supporting the scholarship and career development of our Fellows and each is assigned an academic mentor and will be fully integrated into the life of their host School.

Fellowships can be held in the School of Economics; School of Education and Lifelong Learning; School of Global Development; Law School; Norwich Business School; School of Psychology, and the School of Social Work.

Information on the scheme can be found on the Leverhulme website. Please read this to get an understanding of the requirements of the Fellowship to be clear about the eligibility criteria.

Please see information on how to apply to UEA for the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship 2024.

The Faculty of Social Sciences does not offer funding to Research Fellowships, but all the Schools within the Faculty welcome Visiting Researchers. Please take some time to explore our pages and do get in touch with the Director of Research in the School if you would like to take the conversation further.

For an informal conversation about how we can help you to bring your Research Fellowship to the Faculty of Social Sciences please contact the Associate Dean for Research, Professor Maren Duvendack.

If you decide you would like to apply to hold your Fellowship at UEA we can help you prepare your application to funders by:

  • Introducing you to relevant academic staff who are leaders in your research area;
  • Advising on different funding schemes and their suitability to your career stage;
  • Providing feedback on drafts of your proposal;
  • Assisting in the costing of your proposal and planning budgets.

If you have already secured a Fellowship, we are also happy to discuss whether transferring it to UEA would be a good idea.

Once you are here we will:

  • Integrate you into the relevant School and research community;
  • Provide mentoring from a senior colleague, who will support you to build a network;
  • Manage your research contract, budget and purchasing;
  • Support you with writing and submitting further funding proposals;
  • Provide opportunities to gain teaching experience;
  • Support you with your next step and advise you on progression to a permanent academic position.
