Bolaji Owoseni, who recently completed her PhD in Archaeology at the Sainsbury Research Unit, has been appointed to a one-year Post-doctoral Fellowship at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, Cambridge, which started in October 2023. Dr Owoseni is an archaeologist from Nigeria, whose scholarly pursuits centre on the fields of archaeology and ethno-history within the region of Yorubaland, West Africa with a focus on the significant historical city of Ilorin. Employing social theories, her research aims to gain insights into the early settlement history and material culture of Ilorin, with specific emphasis on ceramic analysis. Prior to her PhD, Bolaji earned her BSc and MSc in Archaeology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The McDonald Institute Fellowship will allow Dr Owoseni to build on her research by utilising scientific methods of archaeological ceramic analysis to enhance our understanding of settlement histories and craft production techniques in West African archaeology.
