Module Overview / Introduction
This fully online, 20-credit postgraduate module is designed for healthcare professionals engaged in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership roles who wish to strengthen their understanding and application of leadership and management principles in clinical education.
The module explores key theoretical frameworks and models in leadership, management, followership, teamwork, change management, and systems thinking—critically examining how these concepts apply to complex and evolving educational environments. Students will reflect on their personal leadership approaches and develop the tools needed to lead change, manage teams, and influence organisational development in their educational settings.
Learning is organised around themed blocks that include interactive eWorkshops, live webinars, and peer discussions. Through a combination of written assignments, collaborative activities, and a reflective leadership analysis, students will evaluate their own leadership practice and produce a change process report relevant to their current or future educational context.
This module is ideal for those currently in, or aspiring to, leadership roles in clinical or academic education who wish to advance their effectiveness and confidence in navigating the challenges of managing people, resources, and change in clinical education.

Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules and regular (five-yearly) review of course programmes. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, there will normally be prior consultation of students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff or sabbatical leave. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will endeavour to inform students.
