Module Overview / Introduction
Audit and evaluation are the cornerstone of measuring the effectiveness and impact of health and care services, providing evidence for quality assurance, demonstrating service performance and identifying clearly where service standards are not being met and improvement is required. Although distinctly different from quality improvement and research, audit and evaluation provide valuable data and insight to inform and support the need for quality improvement and research.
This module aims to provide students with foundational knowledge and understanding of:
-
The methodological principles of audit and evaluation and how these can be used to inform robust design, implementation and governance of audit and evaluation in global, national, regional and local settings;
-
Appraisal and application of evidence to inform audit and evaluation, including research, policy, clinical standards and guidelines.
-
The conduct of effective audit and evaluation, including identification of measurable service standards, data collection tools, frameworks and software, and consideration of the leadership and facilitation skills required to address implementation challenges;
-
Their own capabilities and service, through critical analysis of the aim and purpose of their service, evaluation of strengths and areas for improvement and identification of the opportunities that robust audit and evaluation can provide for their service users, team members and employing organisation.
This 12-week, level 7, online module is suitable for all professionals involved in designing, implementing and evaluating health and care services, particularly those aspiring to or in service leadership and management positions.
