Module Overview / Introduction
This fully online module is designed for healthcare professionals involved in clinical education, supervision, or academic teaching who are looking to enhance their understanding and application of educational research and scholarship.
The module introduces foundational concepts in research methodologies relevant to clinical education and supports learners to critically engage with educational literature and research processes. Participants will explore how to formulate research questions, evaluate appropriate methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and consider issues around ethics, rigour, and dissemination. Through structured activities and assessments, students will develop a research proposal that relates to their own educational practice or context.
This module provides an excellent opportunity to build confidence in engaging with educational literature and in applying research principles to real-world challenges in clinical teaching and learning. It is particularly suited to those interested in educational development, quality improvement, and pursuing future scholarly activity.

Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules and regular (five-yearly) review of course programmes. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, there will normally be prior consultation of students and others.
