Social work students who qualify from our Bachelors and Masters programmes are highly regarded by employers and are well placed to take up posts in many areas of social work practice, with many different service user groups.
Many will take up posts in local authorities working with children and families, with young offenders or with adult services. But many will take up posts with voluntary or independent organisations, who, for example, provide foster care placements, family support or specialist services to people with disabilities or mental health difficulties. Social work placements during the qualifying programmes and all of the teaching are focused on preparing students to take up these posts as confident and competent professional social workers.
Students who take post-qualifying programmes with us, receive teaching from experienced teachers and researchers which will enhance their knowledge, their skills and also their chances of building a successful career, whether in social work practice or in management.
Our research degree programmes give students the opportunity to learn research skills and explore topics of their choice. For some research students this study will be to enhance their roles as practitioners and managers, while for others this becomes stepping stone to a career as a social work researcher and academic.
