School of Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences addresses clinically important questions through an applied health research agenda that will make a difference to people’s lives

At the School of Health Sciences (HSC), you’ll be part of a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking community that’s helping to shape the future of health and social care.

We work at the forefront of innovation, research, and education, and everything we do is driven by a shared goal of improving lives. By closely working with our NHS and social care partners, you’ll learn in an environment that reflects real-world practice and prepares you for your future career.

You’ll join a community of around 2,000 students, supported by over 160 expert academics, researchers, and professional staff who are committed to helping you succeed.

We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive School where everyone is respected, valued, and supported. We are actively committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) for both students and staff, and we currently hold the Athena SWAN Silver Award (2022).

Our EDI work includes an active committee and student-focused initiatives such as the School of Health Sciences Students of Colour Ambassadors. Your feedback really matters to us – it helps us remove barriers, build a stronger sense of belonging, and ensure equal opportunities for all learners.

"At the School of Health Sciences, your learning has purpose — and your future has impact. Join a vibrant, diverse community of learners and experts, gain hands-on experience, and help transform health and social care through research, innovation, and real-world practice."

Your experience at UEA goes beyond the classroom. Our student-led societies give you opportunities to connect with others, develop skills, and take part in social and academic activities. These societies are supported by both the School and the UEA Students’ Union.

Whether you’re a pre-registration or post-registration student, our Associate Directors of Student Experience and Progression work closely with students, course reps, the Students’ Union, and teaching teams to make sure your voice is heard and your experience continues to improve.

If you’re studying nursing, midwifery, or many allied health professions, you could receive an NHS bursary of £5,000 - £8,000 per year to support your studies. There is also additional grants, funding options, and scholarships available to help support you financially while you study at UEA. You can explore what you’re eligible for on our Funding Your Studies page.
