The School of Global Development is fully committed to providing a fair and equal environment for work and study.
As a School we were awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2020. Athena Swan is a Charter to advance women’s careers in Higher Education in all subjects. We have established an Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team (SAT), which through consultations with staff and students is identifying aspects of our learning and working environment which can be further improved to enhance gender equality. Our Athena Swan Team will also monitor staff and student data on an annual basis, review regularly many areas of working practice (e.g. recruitment, promotions), and continue to promote a supportive culture that values all students and staff members.
The Dean of Faculty is a proactive member of the University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and feedback from students and staff is increasingly sought on a range of issues as the Faculty has highly diverse populations and works hard to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment in which all can flourish.
