The University of East Anglia (UEA) has taken a step forward in building new partnerships in Egypt by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ain Shams University.
Prof Steven McGuire, UEA’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor International, was welcomed by Prof Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University; Dr Essam El Kordi, Director of the Universities Support and Development Council; Gareth Bayley, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Egypt; and Prof Mostafa Refit, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Universities for the MOU signing.
Prof McGuire said: “I am delighted to have visited Ain Shams University and to have discussed a wide range of opportunities to strengthen both teaching and research links and collaboration.
“Our universities have many shared areas of expertise, particularly in life sciences and environmental sciences.
“Our vision for UEA’s international future is one of growth and collaboration, building on our excellent reputation and forging new opportunities for partnership and engagement. This visit, including the signing of an MOU between our universities, further outlines our ambitions to work together in the future.”
The signing ceremony was also attended by Mark Howard, British Council Director, and presidents from universities across Egypt.
Ain Shams University is one of the oldest in Egypt and is made up of seven campuses around Cairo.
