The first University of East Anglia students studying in Singapore through its partnership with Amity Global Institute have celebrated their graduation at a special ceremony this month.
Held at the Shangri-La Singapore, the event marked a significant milestone in the partnership between UEA and Amity Global Institute, celebrating the inaugural graduating classes from the BA Global Communication with Business Management and the BSc Computing Science with Software Development programmes.
The graduation began with a robot leading the procession, followed by a bagpiper and the academic procession featuring members of the executive team, academic staff and distinguished guests.
UEA's collaboration with Amity Global Institute was established to create new opportunities for students to achieve internationally recognised UK qualifications while studying in Singapore.
Since welcoming its first students in September 2025, the partnership has continued to grow, with around 200 students enrolled over the 2025/26 academic year.
The collaboration has been designed to provide flexible pathways for students progressing from diploma and related qualifications, offering third year entry into UEA degree programmes at Amity.
Prof Steven McGuire, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UEA, said: “The graduation ceremony was a fantastic occasion, and we were delighted to be invited to celebrate the first graduating cohort of UEA students at Amity Singapore.
“The event represents an important milestone in UEA's growing international partnership activity and demonstrates the success of its collaboration with Amity Global Institute in expanding access to UK higher education in Southeast Asia.”
Among the highlights of the ceremony was the valedictory speech delivered by Gulmahmadzoda Farzona, a graduate from the BA Global Communication with Business Management programme, who reflected on the experiences and achievements of the first graduating cohort.
She said: "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Amity Global Institute and the University of East Anglia for giving us the opportunity to pursue our education, gain valuable knowledge, and prepare ourselves for the future."
As the partnership continues to develop, both institutions remain committed to providing students with high-quality educational opportunities and supporting future cohorts as they progress towards UEA qualifications.
