Shamisa Alnuumani , a PhD student in the School of Politics, Philosophy and Area Studies (PPA), was honoured as part of Oman's celebration of Omani Women's Day, which falls on 17 October. This year's celebration was dedicated to honouring pioneering Omani women in the field of ‘culture, literature, and manuscripts.
Shamisa Alnuumani was honoured for her poetry production, cultural engagement, and contribution to the field of culture in general and literature in particular in the Sultanate of Oman.
Shamisa published three collections of poetry in 2014, 2018, and 2022. She has also published two books in the field of journalism and media, one of them co-authored with a professor at Mass Communication. She has worked as a volunteer in civil society organisations, including four years as secretary of The Omani Society for Writers and Literati.
The ceremony also included an operetta titled ‘Eve of Oman’, which featured a lyrical piece written by Shamisa about Omani women, their achievements, and their dedication.
