I come from a care-experienced background, with a history of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma across early adulthood. I hope by sharing my journey to UEA, I can inspire others and reduce stigma surrounding care-experienced young people.
The label doesn’t define what we’re capable of achieving.
In my first week, my dissertation supervisor sat with me and a university friend to get to know us, which helped foster a sense of belonging at UEA.
I will be pursuing an MSc in Psychology (conversion) to build on my education and develop a deeper psychological understanding across the lifespan.
Working towards being a qualified Clinical Psychologist through the ClinPsyD pathway. My focus will be to specialise in the modality of Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) and support young people through trauma-informed approaches.
I will miss the support that I received, the relationships that I built, and the facilities – especially the Sportspark.
As part of my degree, I conducted research to inform my dissertation. The title of my dissertation was ‘Exploring the Educational Engagement of Care-Experienced Learners in Wickshire (pseudonym)’; the research captured the voice of professionals working with care-experienced young people.
