CAIPE regional forum at UEA - setting the stage for innovation and collaboration in Interprofessional Education (IPE)

UEA Vice-Chancellor Prof David Maguire gave the opening address as UEA hosted the Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE) Regional Forum last week.
UEA is a corporate member of CAIPE, funded by NHS England through UEA’s Centre for Interprofessional Practice (CIPP).
CAIPE’s mission is "…to generate, synthesise and translate the evidence base for best practice in interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice (CP)... in order to influence health and social care policy for the improvement of health outcomes for all."
The hybrid forum brought together 50 attendees across the UK and overseas, including a representative from the General Medical Council, academic and clinical colleagues, and students.
The CAIPE co-chairs, Prof Liz Anderson and Dr Angela Lennox, shared the draft ‘Quality Standards for the design, management and delivery of pre-registration Interprofessional Education in the United Kingdom’ and outlined how the Quality Standards could further support students, educators, health professionals and researchers to achieve the CAIPE’s mission.
Through a range of presentations and workshops themed around ‘re-imagining collaboration: innovative approaches to IPE’, colleagues and students were provided with a platform to discuss ideas of how they could best address the accreditation body’s requirements of IPE; evidence-based innovative approaches of incorporating IPE in Schwartz Rounds; interprofessional clinical skills teaching; Year 1 curriculum; and showcasing interprofessional teamwork in the ‘Healthy Eating and Sustainability’ activity stand at the recent Norwich Science Festival 2025.
Prof Anderson highlighted: "CAIPE members were treated to inspiring reflections and helpful analysis of interprofessional education… there was something for everyone to take away. Importantly, we all felt the collaborative culture from the warm welcome from the VC to the considerations of the entire team."
