Professor Gerard Parr, from UEA's School of Computing Sciences, was recently invited to present at the techUK Subsea Cable Summit last week. This links to his work with India on Future Telecoms Infrastructure across optical, wireless and satellite transport.
The event was by invitation-only, with participants from the Cable Telecoms industry and UK Government agencies, to help shape the current policy and regulatory debate on subsea cables, the UK's internet resilience and lessons we could learn from other jurisdictions on this matter. The event covered a sector review, and highlighted how essential subsea cables are to the UK’s economic security and innovation.
Some interesting facts to note:
Attendees and speakers included representatives from the incumbent subsea cable telecoms operators; subsea cable vendors and commercial repair and maintenance firms, and industry bodies; security stakeholders; end-users; and independent industry experts.
A UK-India partnership aiming to train 100 faculty members on advanced cybersecurity topics, will focus particularly on female staff in tier-2 cities to become catalysts for change in their institutions and communities.
