Independent Research Fellowships
In keeping with its interdisciplinary ethos, research at the University of East Anglia (UEA) sits broadly under the banners of ClimateUEA, HealthUEA and CreativeUEA. Within the Faculty of Science, world leading research is conducted through its five Schools (Biological Sciences; Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology; Computing Sciences; Engineering, Maths and Physics; and Environmental Sciences).
Researchers in the Faculty collaborate globally, nationally and regionally, and are ideally located within the Norwich Research Park, alongside the University hospital, three research institutes and over 150 science and technology companies. In 2027, our new state-of-the-art Science Research Laboratories will open, housing six floors of laboratories, workspaces and teaching areas and becoming home to research for the Science Faculty.
As part of our new Fellowship Academy, we are inviting expressions of interest from outstanding researchers who wish to apply for, or hold, Independent Research Fellowships at UEA (for example, Royal Society University Research Fellowships, UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowships, Wellcome Trust Career Development Awards and other independent career establishment awards).
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to UEA to give a presentation, meet group leaders and discuss their proposals and career development plans at the Faculty of Science Fellowship Day on 5 February, 2026. Selected applicants, who will be mentored in devising research programs and writing competitive fellowship applications, will have an outstanding track record in an area aligned to our research interests, which can be found on the Faculty website.
Successful independent research fellows will be offered tenure at the end of their awards, subject to probation.
