The Faculty of Social Sciences (SSF) at the University of East Anglia has organised its postgraduate research (PGR) training provision along the lines prescribed by the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) Postgraduate Training & Development Guidelines 2015. These guidelines place a strong emphasis on innovation in research and training and encourage the need for interdisciplinary work and collaboration wherever possible.
One in two PGR students in the Social Sciences now chooses to pursue a career outside academia, so the guidelines also place considerable emphasis on the deeper embedding of transferable/professional skills development into training. A well trained PGR student will not just possess the research, methodological and writing skills required to complete their PhD, they should also possess the kind of professional skills that will appeal to a wide range of potential employers. The PGR training system provided by SSF has been designed to help you achieve these desirable outcomes and to develop a personal development/training plan that is structured according to your own individual needs.
