The School of Economics is a lively, friendly, research-oriented department, committed to excellence in teaching.
We have an international reputation for our research into experimental and behavioural economics, industrial and competition economics, and applied econometrics and policy, and play a leading role in the Centre for Behavioural and Experimental Social Science (CBESS) and the Centre for Competition Policy (CCP). We have been ranked among the top six UK Economics departments in the latest CHE Excellence Group for outstanding research performance indicators.
We have teaching strengths in areas such as financial and media economics and our commitment to teaching is exemplified by our results in the National Student Satisfaction Survey. Our students have consistently ranked their student experience among the highest of Economics departments in the UK, and we are always in the top 10. In an independent world ranking, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has ranked us 8th position among UK universities for economics/business.
