2025/6 - AMAM6045A Gender and Television (30 credit variant)
Spring Semester, Level 6 module, Credits: 30 UCU, Media Studies
Organiser: Dr Sarah Godfrey
Assessment Type: Coursework
Gender is one of the key ways in which we make sense of what we see on television and in this module you will build on the ideas and knowledge gained in your degree to delve further into how questions of gender – alongside those of class, sexuality, and representation matter. You will explore the idea of watching television as a broad, variable and social activity (with an emphasis on audiences and viewing), as a political agent (bound up with ideology, discourse and power) and as an institution (thinking about production and authorship) using a range of textual examples. You have the opportunity to develop and hone your research skills by working with your lecturer to devise and develop your own case-study led essay for the assessment.
