2025/6 - HIS-6090B The Medieval Castle: Romance and Reality
Spring Semester, Level 6 module, Credits: UCU 30
Organiser: Professor Robert Liddiard
Assessment Type: Coursework
The castle is one the most recognisable buildings to survive from the Middle Ages. But although well-known, castles are not necessarily well understood. Our view of the castle is coloured by images from fairy tales, fantasy novels and Hollywood, which are often far removed from the medieval reality. This module aims to give a more rounded understanding of these buildings and assess castles from an historical, archaeological, architectural and literary perspective.
