2025/6 – ENV-6039B Evolutionary Biology and Conservation Genetics
Spring Semester, Level 6 module, Credits: UCU 20
Organiser: Professor C Van Oosterhout
Assessment Type: Examination with Coursework or Project
The aim of this module is to give a deep understanding about the evolutionary concepts in conservation. The module covers contemporary issues in conservation biology, evolution, population biology, conservation genetics, the IUCN Red List, ex-situ conservation in zoos and captive breeding, speciation, and Next Generation Sequencing. A background in evolution and/or genetics is recommended, but also students without a background in molecular genetics are able to take this module. This is an advanced course that will explain and discuss the evolutionary concepts in conservation of biodiversity, which will be beneficial for students planning to continue with a PhD in ecology, evolution and conservation, and those wanting to deepen their knowledge about biodiversity conservation.
