Professor Brian Reid has taken on the role of interim Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation.
Brian joined UEA in 2000 as a Lecturer in Soil Science rising to be a professor in the School of Environmental Sciences. Most recently he has served as Associate Dean for Innovation in Science (2019-2022) and UEA Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research (2022-).
He said: "I am delighted to be taking on the role as interim Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. I am excited to be supporting the university to frame our research and innovation strategy, further links with our Norwich Research Park partners, build upon the resounding REF21 success and facilitate impact from UEA's world-leading research."
Vice Chancellor Prof David Maguire said: “We are pleased to welcome Brian into this important role and to membership of the Executive Team. UEA has an excellent reputation for both the quality and impact of our research. We wish to build on an expand our research and innovation success across all areas of UEA.”
In the latest Research Excellent Framework (REF21), UEA achieved its highest ever outcome, being placed 20th overall – 13th for outputs and 16th for impact. In 2022, UEA entered the top 20 UK Universities for research excellence in the Times Higher Education’s (THE's) rankings and the University was named by THE as a world top 100 institution for research citations for 2023.
Prof Reid succeeds Prof Fiona Lettice who left UEA this summer after nearly two decades at the University.
