Overview
This course is the first of its kind in Great Britain that provides a Pharmacy Technician qualification in Higher Education, and was accredited by the GPhC in 2020.
The Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice forms part of the apprenticeship standard for Pharmacy Technicians in England.
As a blended learning course, trainees work through a curriculum of interactive on-line learning, face to face regional study days and work-based learning.
Workplace supervision
Each trainee must be allocated an Educational Supervisor in the workplace who will have the responsibility of overseeing the trainees work-based training for the duration of the course. This can be either a pharmacist or pharmacy technician with appropriate experience. UEA provides mandatory training for anyone undertaking this role.

Course Modules
As a blended learning course, trainees will work through a curriculum of interactive online learning, face to face study days (live online sessions during COVID-19) and work-based learning.
Year 1
Module 1: The Pharmacy Technician as a Healthcare Professional: Safe Medicines Supply
Module 2: Medicines, Diseases and Health 1
Year 2
Module 3: Providing Safe and Effective Person-centred Care in a Complex Environment
Module 4: Medicines, Diseases and Health 2
Entry Requirements
To enrol on this course and become a pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician, applicants must be employed in a pharmacy setting and working under the direction of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician for minimum 30 hours per week over a consecutive two-year period. Trainees may be employed in one setting or undertaking cross-sector training across two or more settings.
All applicants must hold a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or grade C, including English, mathematics and at least one science subject.
In place of English and maths GCSEs, we may be able to consider Functional Skills L2.
For applicants whose first language is not English, we may require evidence of proficiency in English (including reading, writing, speaking and listening) at the following level:
IELTS: 7.0 overall (minimum 6.0 in all components)
