  • Student Support Service - Support for students on study skills, managing finances, disabilities, wellbeing, living on and off campus.  Support for staff on advising, student welfare, and Staff Counselling Service.
  • Parental Leave - Employees with one year's service can take a period of unpaid leave to care for their children.

  • Shared Parental Leave - Mother/Adopter reduces their maternity/adoption leave by ending it early, so that the remaining period of leave can be shared between the two parents.
  • UEA nursery - There is also a Family Room in the basement of the Elizabeth Fry Building which is fitted out for nursing mothers.  To access this room contact the Hub in the Elizabeth Fry Building on 01603 597578.
  • Flexible Working - Any employee who has worked for the University for 26 weeks continuously can request flexible working.
  • Occupational Health Department - Following a period of care leave or ill health BIO offer support for returning to work.  This may include a phased return, short term amendments to duties or adjustments to the working environment.
  • SCI Return to Work Career Development Fund - For any staff member employed by the SCI Faculty who has returned to work after a significant period of absence.  Contact Siobhan Dorai-Raj at for more details.
  • ResNet - Information network promoting gender equality and fairness at the UEA and across the Norwich Research Park.
  • UEA Coaching Scheme - BIO also offer 'coffee time mentoring' where you can have an informal chat with a BIO faculty member for career options and advice.
  • Career Central - One-to-one guidance appointments and a range of workshops are available.  BIO also offer mock interviews.
