FOI_26-231 Admission for five courses

Date of response: 13 October 2026

We have now considered your request of 16 September 2026 for the following information:

Under the applicable freedom of information legislation, please provide the following recorded information for the undergraduate courses listed below at University of East Anglia UEA, separately for the 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 admissions cycles:

Please treat the courses in the following priority order:

1. Medicine

2. Pharmacy

3. Law

4. Computer Science

5. Economics

If answering for all five courses would exceed the appropriate cost limit, please provide the information for as many as possible in the order above, beginning with course 1. If item 5 creates the difficulty, please omit item 5 and provide items 1 to 4. Where a course title has changed, please use the closest corresponding undergraduate course and identify it in the response.

For this request, a “valid application” means an application considered for the relevant course. An “offer” includes conditional and unconditional offers. “Meeting the standard predicted academic entry requirements” means an existing institutional flag, rule or readily extractable category. I am not asking the institution to create a new assessment of individual applications.

Please provide the information as CSV or XLSX where possible. I do not seek personal data, and small cells may be suppressed while preserving totals.

Question 1. The number of valid applications.

Question 2. The number of offers made.

Question 3. The number of acceptances or enrolments, where held.

Question 4. The number of applicants recorded at the point of decision as meeting the standard predicted academic entry requirements, and the number of offers made to that group, where this is held as an existing field or readily extractable category.

Question 5. Whether an interview, admissions test, portfolio, audition or other additional selection stage was mandatory, together with aggregate numbers reaching that stage and receiving an offer where readily extractable.

Our response:

We regret that on this occasion it is not possible to provide the requested information.

Under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act, we can confirm that the University does hold the information requested, however on this occasion it is not possible for us to provide any of the information relating to the number of applicants recorded at the point of decision as meeting the standard predicted academic entry requirements, and the number of offers made to that group, where this is held as an existing field or readily extractable category for Pharmacy Law, Computer Science and Economics.

We have determined that the cost of finding and assembling the requested information will exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ as defined by section 12 of the Act and the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004/3244.

'The ‘appropriate limit’ of £450, which equates to 18 hours’ work, as defined by the Information Commissioner’s Office, can relate to one request in its entirety or to a series of linked requests. If the University cannot locate, retrieve and extract some or all of the requested information within the 18 hours we are not obliged to retrieve any of the requested information.

Information relating to scores at each stage is held within our Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing department. There is no central record of where this information is held.

Please note that this is recorded for Medicine as part of first stage screening. For the other schools we do not record at point of decision whether they meet the standard academic entry requirements

For the period outlined in your request we have identified 9032 offer holder records, which may fall into the scope of your request. The only way of identifying, extracting and recording the exact information you seek would be to interrogate each individual record manually.

We have calculated it would take 2 minutes per records, or 301 hours, to locate and manually interrogate each individual record. Which exceeds the appropriate time-limit as outlined above.

Under section 16 of the Act, and we can provide responses in full to questions 1, 2, 3 and 5. For question 4, we are only able to provide the requested information for all three academic years in relation to MB BS Medicine.

Please note we have not considered whether any exemptions may apply to such a request.

We should also point out that any revised request you submit will be treated as a new FOI request, and the 20 working-day time-limit will begin again.

We are sorry we cannot provide the data you requested, but trust this response explains our position.
