FOI_26-121 GAMSAT and UCAT scores and criteria for all Medicine entry routes

We have now considered your request of 15 June 2026 for the following information:

The questions below concern admission to the Norwich Medical School MBBS programmes (UCAS codes A100, A101 Graduate Entry, and A104 Medicine with a Gateway Year) for 2027 entry, and recent prior cycles where indicated. UEA publishes its entry requirements, route structure, and widening-participation framework in detail;

I have confined my questions to points that are not resolved by your current public pages. I am aware that UEA maintains a disclosure log and publishes some A100 admissions FOIs there — if any question below is already answered by a disclosure-log entry, I would be grateful for the specific reference (see the Section 21 note below).

Question 1 — Historical UCAT / GAMSAT scores at interview invitation

Please confirm each of the following sub-parts separately:

Question 1(a) For each of the most recent three to five entry cycles, and separately for each route and pool — A100 (UK), A100 (International), A101, and A104 — the lowest-ranked UCAT total score (or GAMSAT overall score, for A101 GAMSAT applicants) that secured an invitation to interview in that cycle.

If no fixed threshold is set and selection is purely by rank to fill interview places, please provide the lowest score among those invited in each cycle, which is the figure I am seeking.

Our response:

There is no threshold for UCAT scores, therefore the following are the lowest UCAT scores of an applicant invited to interview.

There was no A101 course running in 2024 and 2023.

GAMSAT scores are only used for A101 and the lowest GAMSAT Score was 51 (2025 cycle only available).

Question (b) For the secondary-screening ranking stage, please confirm whether applicants are ranked on their raw UCAT total score or on a decile / banded transformation of it, and if a transformation is used, state the bands or method.

Our response:

For both A100 UK and A100 International, applicants are ranked on total UCAT raw score, and not a decile or or banded information. No banded transformation is used.

(c) If a minimum UCAT or GAMSAT threshold was set for the A101 NR / PE / IP postcode guaranteed-interview route in any recent cycle, please state that threshold for each cycle in which one was set.

Our response:

No minimum score used for both A100 UK and A100 International applicants.

There is no GAMSAT Threshold used for the A101 NR/PE/IP postcode guaranteed interview route.

Question 2 — How the SJT contributes to the interview score (A100 and A104)

Please confirm each of the following sub-parts separately:

(a) On A100 and A104, your published process states that the UCAT Situational Judgement Test is included within the interview score rather than used as a standalone Band gate. Please state exactly how the SJT band is converted into the interview score — for example, the number of points or the proportion of the interview score attributable to each SJT band (Band 1 / Band 2 / Band 3).

(b) Please confirm whether an SJT of Band 4 has any effect on A100 or A104 applications (as distinct from the A101 UCAT route, where I understand Band 4 results in rejection). Please answer "yes" or "no"; if "yes", state the effect; if "no", please confirm Band 4 carries no A100/A104 consequence, rather than referring to a webpage that does not address this point.

No for both 2023 and 2024, applicable to both A100 UK and A100 International applicants.

Question 3 — Routes to a guaranteed interview

Please confirm each of the following sub-parts separately. For the UEA Preparing for Medicine programme in particular, the recorded eligibility and verification information may sit with the Widening Participation / Outreach team rather than central Admissions; please ensure this question is routed to whichever team holds the recorded information before responding.

(a) For each guaranteed-interview route you operate across A100, A101 and A104 (2027 entry), please state its full eligibility criteria and its verification mechanism.

This includes, at minimum, the routes I understand you to operate:

UEA Preparing for Medicine completers;

UEA graduates meeting academic minimums;

the University of Cambridge ICE Pre-Medical Studies pathway;

and the A101 NR / PE / IP postcode route.

and for the A101 NR / PE / IP postcode route, this is not being used in 2027. This will be on website when published. The University did not apply any criteria in 2025 or 2026.

(b) For the UEA Preparing for Medicine programme specifically, please provide the full eligibility criteria. The "Full eligibility criteria" section of the published programme page contains no content when expanded, so this information does not appear to be publicly accessible.

(c) For each guaranteed-interview route, please state which selection thresholds it bypasses — specifically whether it bypasses the UCAT/GAMSAT secondary-screening rank, the academic minima, or both — and, for the NR/PE/IP route, whether the "possible minimum threshold" is in fact applied in practice.

A100 and A104 they are not ranked by UCAT for interview. For A101, there are no selection thresholds.

(d) For each of the following route-types, please confirm whether UEA operates it as a path to a guaranteed interview for 2027 entry.
