We have now considered your request of 05 May 2026 for the following information:
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding the size and organisational structure of digital and IT functions within your institution.
I would be grateful if you could provide the following information for the most recent complete financial year available:
Question 1. Organisational Structure
• A high-level organisational structure for:
o IT Services / Information Technology
o Digital / Digital Transformation / Digital Development functions
• This may be provided as:
o An organisational chart (organogram), or
o A structured description of teams and reporting lines
• If these functions sit within a wider professional services directorate, a summary of how they are positioned within that structure
Clarification received:
In response, some universities now have separate IT and Digital teams, with the former reporting to a Director of IT and the latter reporting to a Chief Digital Officer

Some roles exist outside of ITCS, however as per your clarification, we have provided our organisational charts for those who report to our Chief Information Officer (Chief Digital Officer).
These teams do not sit under a wider professional services directorate, and we do not have a summary of how they are positioned within such structure.
Question 2. Staffing Numbers
• Total number of staff (headcount and, if available, FTE) within:
o IT/Technology teams
o Digital / Digital transformation / Digital development teams
• Please include centrally managed teams only (i.e. excluding embedded faculty/departmental IT unless these are included within a central function)
Our response:
Total number of staffing within IT/technical teams and digital/digital transformation/digital development teams is 118 headcounts, equating to 116.78 FTE.
Question 3. Salary Expenditure
• Total annual salary expenditure (staff costs) for:
o IT/Technology teams
o Digital / digital transformation / digital development teams
• If a breakdown is not available, a combined figure for the overall digital and IT function would be acceptable
Our response:
The total annual salary expenditure for IT/technical teams, digital/digital transformation/digital development teams is £5,106,950, for academic year 2025-26.
Question 4. Supporting Materials (Organisational Insight)
• A copy of any organisational chart, service catalogue, or internal document that describes:
o The structure of digital and/or IT teams
• If a formal organogram cannot be shared, a summary description of reporting lines and major functional areas would be very helpful

The University have no further strategy, structure summary or narrative published which describes how digital and IT services are organised within the institution.
