Date of response: 03 February 2026

We have now considered your request of 14 January 2026 for the following information:

I am writing to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding the selection process for the A100 Medicine course for the 2025/2026 cycle, as well as historical data for the previous three cycles (2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25).

My request specifically concerns the methodology and algorithms used to select candidates for an interview. Please provide the following information:

Question 1. Interview Selection Methodology & Weighting

Please provide a detailed explanation of how candidates are ranked or scored for interview selection. Specifically:

Formula/Algorithm: If a formula or point-based system is used, please provide specific details. For example: "Weighted score = (UCAT Score 40%) + (GCSE Score 60%)" or "Candidates are ranked solely on UCAT score once minimum academic thresholds are met."

Component Weighting: Please specify the exact percentage weighting or points awarded for each of the following elements in the pre-interview selection process:

UCAT Score (and components, if weighted differently)

GCSE Grades

A-Level Predicted/Achieved Grades

Personal Statement

Work Experience

Contextual Data

Our response:

For all three academic years, the UCAT score and components) is weighted at 100%.

All other aspects, GCSE, A Level, Personal Statement, Work Experience and contextual data have a 0% weighting for the three academic years. There is no weighting against these components.

Question 2. Scoring Criteria Details

Please provide the specific scoring grids or matrices used for the following:

GCSE Scoring: How are individual GCSE grades converted into a score? (e.g., Grade 9 = 5 points, Grade 8 = 4 points, etc.). How many GCSEs are scored (e.g., top 8)?

A-Level Scoring: Are A-levels scored? If so, what is the point value for predicted/achieved grades?

UCAT Scoring: How is the UCAT score converted into points? Is there a cutoff score? How is the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) band used (e.g., as a threshold or part of the ranking score)?

Our response:

Not applicable. The University do not apply any weighting or scoring to those components, and there is no cut off score for UCAT. We also confirm there is not threshold for SJT scoring and it is not used as part of the ranking score.

Question 3. Application Statistics

For the past three admissions cycles, please provide:

Total Applications Received (Overall vs. Home vs. International)

Number of Interviews Invited

Lowest UCAT Score Invited to Interview (for non-contextual and contextual applicants separately)

Average UCAT Score Invited to Interview

Lowest Academic Score (e.g. GCSE score, A-Levels) Invited to Interview (if applicable)

Post-Interview Success Rate: The number of offers made as a percentage of interviews conducted.

Question 4. Contextual Admissions

How is contextual data used in the interview selection process? (e.g., guaranteed interview, lowered UCAT threshold, or added points to the ranking score).

Please provide the specific algorithm or adjustment applied for contextual applicants.

Our response:

For 2026 cycle, we publish details on ‘how we handle an application’ here: MBBS Medicine 2026/27 | UEA

This process has remained unchanged for the cycles requested in your request.
