FOI_25-251 Serving prisoners studying a Masters or Doctorate

We have now considered your request of 01 September 2025 for the following information:

Question 1. I am looking for information on the number of serving prisoners who have studied at your university in the last 5 years, studying at level 7.

I would like the number of students, and the subject.

Clarification received 01 September:

I'm interested in the number of students who studied with you while being in prison. So either remotely, or via 'day release'.

I'm interested in students studying Masters & Doctorates.

Our response:

On this occasion it is not possible to provide any of the requested information. In line with your rights under section 1(1)(a) of the Act to be informed whether information is held, we confirm that the University does not hold any recorded information for the number of individuals, who studied a Masters or Doctorate degree with the University whilst also serving a prison sentence during the requested period.

We have not had any students who were serving in prison that studied with us, either remotely or whilst on day release, in the last five years.
