We have now considered your request of 16 July 2025 for the following information:

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information regarding your university's use of artificial intelligence (AI) detection tools in the context of academic integrity monitoring.

Question 1. Please name the AI-based detection tool(s) the university uses to identify potential use of generative AI in student submissions, e.g. TurnItIn.

Our response:

On this occasion it is not possible to provide any of the requested information. In line with your rights under section 1(1)(a) of the Act to be informed whether information is held, we confirm that the University does not hold any recorded information for the name of the AI-based detection tools used to identify potential generative AI in student submissions. The UEA does not have an approved Artificial-Intelligence detection tool for student submissions.

Question 2. How many academic misconduct cases were initiated where AI detection tools were used as part of the evidence in the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25?
