We have now considered your request of 02 April 2025 for the following information:
With regards the delivery of your University’s MBBS medicine degree teaching programme:
Question 1. Do (i) antimicrobial resistance and (ii) antimicrobial stewardship feature as specific learning outcomes?
Our response:
(i) Yes
(ii) Partially
Question 2. If so, what are the specified learning outcomes for
(i) antimicrobial resistance and
(ii) antimicrobial stewardship within your medical degree curriculum?
Our response:
The learning outcomes are:
(i) 'Discuss antimicrobial resistance, how it affects the management of infection and methods of tackling it’.
(ii) ‘Discuss the role of prophylactic antibiotics pre-surgery or gastrointenstinal investigation. Discuss appropriate empirical antibiotic regimes.’
Learning outcomes refer to core knowledge the students are meant to acquire and which are later part of the assessment (examination).
Learning outcomes are set by the Medical School corresponding to the national instructions and students will be able to discuss the two key points noted above as part of their learning.
Question 3. How many total hours of teaching, broken down by year of teaching, are specifically provided on the topic of (i) antimicrobial resistance and (ii) antimicrobial stewardship?
Our response:
On this occasion it is not possible to provide any of the requested information. In line with your rights under section 1(1)(a) of the Act to be informed whether information is held, we confirm that the University does not hold any recorded information for the total ours of teaching, by year of teaching on the topic of antimicrobial resistance, and the total hours of teaching of antimicrobial stewardship.
The University do not record the total hours on these two separate topics, however, after a thorough search of our timetabled sessions we can confirm that, from data held, the combined total of sessions recorded as containing the topics of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship, comes to 11 hours and 40 minutes.
