University Of Sanctuary anniversary celebrations

Last Wednesday, the UEA UNESCO Chair team contributed to the University of Sanctuary anniversary celebrations. PGR students Burcu Evren and Chris Millora spoke to visitors (including Norwich Mayor and Sheriff) about the UNESCO Chair participatory research project which we are working on with New Routes and Terrence Higgins Trust.

Deirdre Medler had also prepared a poster presentation about the University of Sanctuary educational partnerships, including UEA’s work with the Schools of Sanctuary and the English language support initiative recently launched by EDU Academic Associate, Lindsay Howard. Anna Robinson-Pant chaired the presentations by Enana Al Assaf and Dalyan Eldady - two Sanctuary Scholarship holders - who vividly described their journey from working and studying in Aleppo as pharmacists to conducting PhD research at UEA. The anniversary events concluded with ‘the flight of the balloon’ in the UEA drama studio, organised by Norwich Arts Centre, and on the theme of ‘Borders: are controls necessary?’
