UEA researchers named in world’s 2021 most highly cited list

Nine science researchers, based at Norwich Research Park including eight researchers from UEA, have been named in the annual Highly Cited Researchers list for 2021. The Clarivate Web of Science Group list, now in its eighth year, recognises the most influential researchers in the world. The list represents those researchers ranking in the top 1% by citations for their specific fields of expertise.
The citation analysis identifies influential researchers that is determined by their peers around the globe. Being highly cited in a particular research field is earned by delivering high quality research throughout a researcher’s career.
The UK has the third largest amount of citations with 492 researchers listed. The appearance of nine researchers from Norwich Research Park on the list is a measure of the exceptional impact that scientists based there are making globally.
The nine researchers named on the list and their areas of specialism are:
Plant and animal science

Professor Sophien Kamoun, The Sainsbury Laboratory/University of East Anglia - interactions between plants and filamentous pathogens

Professor Cyril Zipfel, The Sainsbury Laboratory/University of Zurich – molecular basis of plant innate immunity and how the perception of pathogen-associated molecules link to the establishment of immunity.

Professor Jonathan Jones, The Sainsbury Laboratory/University of East Anglia - how plants resist disease and how pathogens evade or suppress the detection and resistance mechanisms of their plant hosts

Professor Phil Jones, University of East Anglia – study of climate change and the detection and attribution of climate.

The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts from the Institute for Scientific Information at the Web of Science Group.
