UEA celebrates strong subject performances in national rankings

The University of East Anglia (UEA) has recorded a series of strong subject performances in the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027, with several recognised among the UK's best.
The latest rankings, published today, 18 September, saw 9 subjects ranked in the UK top 15, including four in the top 10, showcasing the strength and breadth of UEA's academic offer.
Social Work was ranked 6th nationally, while Anthropology (joint 7th), Physiotherapy (joint 8th) and Nursing (joint 10th) also secured places among the UK's top 10 subject areas.
Additional strong performances included:
Creative Writing – 11th
Liberal Arts – 11th
Subjects Allied to Medicine – 12th
Biomedical Sciences – 12th
Geology – joint 15th
Medicine – 16th
History of Art, Architecture and Design – joint 18th
UEA also performed strongly for research quality, ranking 17th nationally.
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide assesses universities across measures including teaching quality, student experience, research quality, graduate prospects, entry standards and continuation rates.
The rankings draw on nationally collected data from sources including the National Student Survey (NSS), the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
The results highlight UEA's performance across measures covering both academic excellence and student outcomes, recognising strengths in teaching, research and the wider university experience.
In the overall rankings, UEA maintained its position at 40th nationally, reflecting consistent performance across a range of indicators in an increasingly competitive higher education environment.
Excluding the University of Cambridge, UEA was the highest-performing university in the East of England.
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide is one of the UK's most widely read university rankings and is used extensively by prospective students and their families when making higher education choices.
