Times Higher Education table puts UEA in the world’s top 100 for Life Sciences

The University of East Anglia (UEA) has maintained its place as a world top 100 university for Life Sciences degrees in the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.
And, in a successful year for UEA, it was also named as the UK’s second most cited university in both Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.
THE revealed their annual World University Rankings by Subject tables for Health and Sciences today (Thursday 16 September), which drill down into the successes of universities in individual subject areas, and follow on from the announcement of their overall World University Rankings tables earlier in the month.
UEA’s greatest success was in Life Sciences, in which it rose from =94th to =92nd. The table highlights the universities leading across agriculture and forestry, biological sciences, veterinary science and sport science.
One of the metrics on which THE’s tables are based is the number of citations a university published work is cited by scholars globally, with the results taken from thousands of journal articles, article reviews, conference proceedings, books and book chapters published over the last five years.
This gives a measure of how much a particular university’s research has stood out, been picked up and built on by other scholars and been shared globally to enhance societal knowledge and understanding.
UEA scored particularly well across both Life Sciences and Physical Sciences, placing 30th in the world and 2nd in the UK for Life Sciences degrees, and 15th in the world and 2nd in the UK for Physical Sciences degrees. The Physical Sciences table highlights universities leading across mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, and earth and marine sciences.
