A new podcast, PSY Student Sessions, created as a collaboration between staff and students, aims to shed light on university experiences by featuring students chatting about topics which may otherwise be overlooked.
PSY Student Sessions currently has four episodes available to listen to on Spotify.
Episode 1 features students discussing all that comes with starting your university journey: including tips for making friends, coping with increased independence, managing workload and where to go for support.
Episode 2 sees students discuss their approach to assessments, feedback, tips on reducing procrastination and navigating second-year deadlines.
Episode 3 has students talking about their role as panel members and PAL mentors.
Episode 4 features students sharing their experiences of navigating the winter break.
A fifth episode, due to be released on the 10 February, features students offering tips for coping with homesickness.
The Psychology lecturers behind the project, Dr Jen Coleman and Dr Alice Bush, said:
"There are many avenues of support for students at UEA, but often students will wait until crisis point before reaching out. We wanted to create a resource for our students where they can listen to other students talking about the things that they are worrying about. By providing a student perspective on all aspects of the student experience, such as assessments, internships, and being an international student, we hope that students will remember that they are not alone and can find out where to get more support if they need it.
“We are so happy that those students who have joined us on the podcast so far have enjoyed the experience and appreciate the opportunity to share their experience. We feel that it is already helping to bridge the gap that can sometimes exist between students and staff. We try to talk as little as possible, as we really want this to be all about student perspectives, providing a space for them to give advice to each other.
“Whilst many of the things discussed are particular to students in the School of Psychology, many of the topics are applicable to student life in general, and we hope that students from across the University will listen and gain support from each other.”
If you have an idea for a topic to discuss in a future episode, please get in touch with jennifer.coleman@uea.ac.uk"
