Global ranking places UEA in world's top 300 universities

A prestigious global league table has ranked UEA among the top 251-300 universities in the world.
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, announced today, see UEA placed in the global 251-300 bracket. It also ranks UEA as joint 32nd, or amongst the top third, of all UK universities.
There was also a strong result for Life Sciences at UEA, which ranked top 101-125 in the world.
THE World University Rankings compare universities around the globe based on how well they perform in key areas like teaching, research, international collaboration, and industry engagement.
Prof David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor of UEA, said: “I am delighted that UEA has once again secured its place among the world’s top 300 universities.
“It is especially encouraging to see a remarkable rise of 119 places in our teaching score, which is a clear reflection of our commitment to delivering an outstanding learning experience for our students.
“Maintaining strong results in research quality and international outlook reinforces UEA’s global reputation for excellence and innovation.”
Prof Steven McGuire, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: “This recognition reflects our global outlook and the strength of our international research and academic communities. highlighting the value of our cross-border collaborations and the diverse perspectives they bring.
“We remain committed to deepening existing partnerships and actively forging new links with institutions around the world to enhance the reach, relevance, and impact of our work.”
Universities are assessed using five core pillars of evaluation, each with a set of indicators that are combined, using a weighted formula, to produce the final ranking:

Research Quality
International Outlook
Industry Engagement
The rankings are widely used by students, academics, and policymakers to help make informed decisions.
