An environmentally-conscious film production company who has received funding from the University of East Anglia’s (UEA) Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) will release a star-studded film later this week (Friday 6 July).
The Norfolk-based company Genesius Pictures, will release ‘The More You Ignore Me’ which stars Sheridan Smith, Sheila Hancock, Ricky Tomlinson and Lisa Stansfield. The film is based on comedian Jo Brand’s critically-acclaimed novel of the same name.
The organisation were one of the first film production companies in the UK to adopt low carbon ways of working, following investment and guidance from the LCIF, part of the Adapt Low Carbon Group at UEA in Norwich.
Throughout production of ‘The More you Ignore Me’, Genesius Pictures adopted sometimes unconventional methods to reduce their carbon footprint and address resource efficiency and waste issues in the film industry.
They digitalised all their paper work including the scripts, used sustainable resources in their set construction and made recycling facilities readily available for the cast.
“At Genesius Pictures we are committed to producing high quality, innovative films, whilst considering the impact production could have on the environment.” said Debbie Gray, Managing Director of Genesius Pictures.
“We have been working with LCIF since 2013 and their support has been pivotal in ensuring we are doing everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint. Many of the initiatives have proved incredibly simple to implement and have also helped reduce our costs.”
The film is a comedy drama focusing on the life of an unconventional family in 1980’s rural England which addresses mental health issues and their impact on the family. It focuses on Gina, a young mother, whose efforts to be a loving mother and wife are undermined by her declining mental health.
The LCIF is part of the Adapt Low Carbon Group at UEA which was established in 2010 specifically to invest in small to medium-sized local companies whose products or services reduce carbon emissions.
Prof John French, CEO of LCIF, said: “We are delighted to offer ongoing support to a regional company producing high quality films with such highly acclaimed actors. Genesius Pictures are pioneers in an industry which historically has a large carbon footprint, so it’s a pleasure to see the hard work come to fruition.”
