David was born in Norwich and grew up in Norfolk. He trained as a solicitor and worked at a law firm in the City of London before joining an investment bank and establishing his own banking business.
David and his family returned to Norfolk in 1995 and he has been Executive Chairman of Jarrold & Sons Ltd since 2002. He is currently the independent member on the UEA Estates Committee and also a Trustee of the John Innes Foundation, a Governor of the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library and an Honorary Squadron Commander at RAF Mildenhall. He also serves as a Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk.
His other various roles have included Deputy Chair of the UEA Council, Chair of Norwich HEART, Chair of the Norwich Playhouse Theatre and Trustee of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association.
