Student Union Buddy Scheme for New Students
buddy(su) is a scheme run by students, for students. buddy(su) is the number one way to settle in at UEA, make friends, get to grips with Univesity life and find your way around campus and the fine city of Norwich. You can sign up to register your interest.
Join our School of Mathematics, and you'll be part of a tight-knit community dedicated to teaching, learning and discovery. We're a school where dynamic students and active researchers are brought together by a common passion.
We offer a modern teaching programme designed to give students a firm grasp of the principles of mathematics. Our flexible course structure enables you to focus on what interests you, from pure to applied mathematics - or maybe a broad range of modules. As well as technical skills including sophisticated mathematical techniques, we help you to master a range of vital attributes such as strong communication and critical thinking.
Our community is also home to fascinating research in fields from fluid dynamics to logic, and from quantum fluids to representation theory. We have links with mathematicians across Europe and beyond, and 87.8% of our research output was rated world-leading or internationally-excellent in the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

Title: An Invitation to the Representation Theory of Monoids
Speaker: Benjamin Steinberg (The City of College of New York)
Location: EFry 01.10 on Monday 16 September at 2pm
Abstract: We provide an overview of the representation theory of finite monoids. Our focus will be on examples (like the monoid of nxn matrices over a finite field and the monoid of all mappings of an n element set) and applications (to Markov chains and perhaps symbolic dynamics).
