Within the School of Biological Sciences, activities are coordinated by the BIO Equality and Diversity Committee (BIO-E&D), a cross-departmental initiative led by Professor Tracey Chapman. The group includes academic, technical and administrative staff, post-doctoral Research Associates and post-graduate research students from across the whole school, as well as professionals from Human Resources and the Equality and Diversity Office. BIO-E&D also works closely with staff from the Centre for Staff and Educational Development (CSED) and the Career Service.
Since its inception in September 2012, BIO-E&D has met monthly to analyse and reflect on cultural practices that affect equality at all levels within the school.
Having achieved Bronze status in 2013, BIO-E&D led the successful application for Athena SWAN silver status awarded in 2016.
