We plan to run face to face interviews on campus for 2024 entry.

An interview is a compulsory part of the application process for both MB BS Medicine and MB BS Medicine with a Gateway Year. If you submit an application to us, we will be in touch  to let you know if you have been selected for an interview.

If you are an overseas fee payer, applying to us from overseas, and you are offered an interview, this will be in person, on campus.

What is the interview like?

The interview will be an OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination), also known as a Multiple Mini Interview. There are six stations with six interviewers and you will spend 5 minutes at each station, with 1.5 minute preparation time. We will only be able to interview you in the format specified in your invitation to interview.

We can't tell you what the questions will be but we typically look for:

  • An acceptable approach to decision making when given incomplete or conflicting information
  • The ability to learn and work effectively in partnership
  • A caring and supportive attitude
  • An empathetic and caring approach
  • Insight to Medicine as a career and personal suitability for the profession
  • Honesty, integrity and personal effectiveness

Interviews will be conducted in the Norwich Medical School.

Applicants will be emailed information about 'what happens next?' after they have attended an interview.

When will my interview be?

We will individually email invitations to applicants who are selected for interview. Interviews are expected to take place between November 2023 and February 2024.

What will I need to bring with me?

The documents you will need to bring will be listed in your interview invitation email.

Can I bring guests?

You are welcome to bring guests but they will need to wait elsewhere whilst the interviews take place. There are plenty of cafes available on campus or they are welcome to explore UEA via our Self-Guided Tour.

What is the dress code?

Please dress professionally as you would for a job interview.

Travelling by car

We recommend using Costessey Park and Ride (postcode NR9 3LX) and taking the 511 bus service to main campus.  Parking is limited and not usually available on campus during the week.

Travelling by train

The nearest station to UEA is Norwich Railway Station. Once you arrive in Norwich, you can use First Bus Services to get to campus (numbers 25 and 26/26A go to UEA via Norwich City Centre). Alternatively, it will take approximately 15 minutes by taxi.

Travelling by coach

National Express stops are located on campus and there are regular local bus services from the coach stop at Norwich Bus Station, to UEA.

Help covering costs

Our Travel Fund is available to support individuals attending interviews at UEA, subject to meeting our eligibility criteria.

Staying overnight

If you want to spend a night in Norwich, you can stay right here on campus at Broadview Lodge. You can also stay in Norwich city centre, which is 15 minutes away by bus or taxi. See Norwich hotels.

Where do I go when I arrive?

Your interview will take place in the Norwich Medical School Building, located on our main campus - you can find where to go using our campus map.

Find us here: ///frames.moss.record

What time do I need to arrive by?

You will need to arrive at least 30 minutes before your interview time so you can register, provide the requested documents and have your briefing before the interviews start. The interview itself will last approximately 40 minutes.

Make sure you follow the information in your interview invitation email; it will specify which location you need to report to. If you're unsure, contact the admissions team.

What do I do If I am running late?

If you are delayed or think you might be late, contact the Admissions Service on live chat or telephone +44(0)1603 591515.

Is lunch provided?

Lunch is not provided but there are on-site cafes where you can buy food and refreshments.

Can I arrange an alternative date/time?

If you can't make the date you've been invited to, please contact the Admissions Service as soon as possible on +44(0)1603 591515 or admissions@uea.ac.uk . We will do our best to offer you an alternative date or time if we can but in some cases this may not be possible as dates are subject to availability.

If you don't attend an interview and do not notify us of your absence prior to the interview taking place, we will assume that you no longer wish to be considered for the course and your application will be updated accordingly on UCAS.

What happens after the interview?

Due to the competitiveness of the course, it will be unlikely that any offers are made until after all applicants have been interviewed. It is likely that you will hear whether you have been successful in March when initial offers are made. Please note that we monitor acceptances and declines and may make further offers up until the UCAS reject by default deadline in May.

The three possible outcomes after your interview will be:

  • We will make you an offer
  • We will hold your application for later consideration
  • Your application has been unsuccessful

We will be in touch by email to let you know our decision so keep an eye out for any emails from UEA.

If you have been unsuccessful, we will indicate the reason for this via UCAS. If you would like further feedback, please email us. We cannot usually provide very detailed individual feedback due to the number of applications we receive and the nature of the process - our admission policy has more details.

If we do offer you a place, you will be invited to attend the Medicine Applicant Day, which takes place on a Saturday in March. You will get to see the Medical School facilities with current students, meet academic staff and tour our beautiful campus. Even if you have attended an Open Day before, we recommend attending the Applicant Day if you can.

How can I withdraw my application?

If you no longer want to do Medicine at UEA, it is really important that you let us know and that you update your UCAS Hub as soon as possible. Please email us with your full name, UCAS Personal ID Number and the reason why you are withdrawing your application.

An interview is a compulsory part of the application process for the following courses within the School of Health Sciences.
