Connecting with your community on campus
UEA and Norwich are great places to study, work and live if you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
We have a flourishing student community on campus, and a fast-growing staff network of LGBTQIA+ allies (you can spot them by their rainbow badges on their lanyards).
Recently our Students Union (SU) announced that Scholars, the postgraduate bar, will be turned into a new inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ student community. This comes as part of a wider push by the SU to create welcoming and accessible environments where students from diverse backgrounds can come together, relax, study, and socialise. The SU runs events for the community throughout the year, especially during LGBTQIA+ History month. We also have UEA Pride society which aims to provide welfare support and social opportunities to our LGBTQIA+ students.
Student Services are also on hand to offer support to students who have a disability, and their team of disability advisors are there to give you the advice, guidance and support you need. Our wellbeing team also offers lots of services to students, all to support them with their wellbeing and to aid students to reach their full potential.
You can also explore Norwich Pride's directory of LGBT+ and LGBT+ friendly venues, organisations and businesses and the UEA student's union Pride Society.

Norwich – why you’ll love this city
Norwich is a vibrant city and is known as the bisexual capital of England. We have a larger than average LGBTQIA+ population, both compared to the rest of Norfolk and to other cities in the UK. This makes it a great place to come and study, as you are likely to be surrounded by like-minded people who are all open to sharing their thoughts and experiences. There is so much going on in this city, with Norwich Arts Centre hosting regular drag nights alongside other events. The city has a diverse and thriving community, and there is something for everyone.
Norwich Pride is a big event in the city, and one not to be missed. It has been running since 2009, and with such a large and diverse LGBTQIA+ community in this city, it's one of the biggest celebrations in Norwich's calendar!
