UEA Music Centre offers two schemes providing financial support for talented and musically ambitious students:
Music Centre Award - worth £800 per year and open to all UEA students
Music Scholarship - worth £3,000, payable over three years, and open to all new UEA undergraduates.
The awards and scholarships are for musicians of any instrument or voice and any style or tradition – including different national traditions. They are intended to encourage the recipients to develop their musical and leadership skills in order that they may contribute significantly to music at UEA. A high standard of performance is expected, but equally important is a clear commitment to take leading roles in the musical life of the University.
It is expected that a major part of the contribution made by the holder of an award or scholarship will be to play or sing in University ensembles relevant to their voice or instrument, and to be a leading member of those ensembles, demonstrating commitment and encouraging others. Those for whom no ensemble is appropriate will be expected to devise and demonstrate ways of contributing to the musical life of the University.
Some examples of other ways previous Scholars and Award holders have of contributed to musical life:
Playing or singing with any of the student-led Music Society ensembles, or with the Live Music Society or Showchoir, or by involvement in Music Production and HCR Records
Developing opportunities for kinds of music we don’t yet support and collaborating with other musicians
Performing in Lunchtime Concerts or solo/chamber music, both within and beyond UEA
