The Health Services and Primary Care Research group seeks to improve the quality of health care in the UK and other countries, and identify health technologies and ways of delivering them that are effective, efficient, equitable and acceptable.
Interests include trials of innovative interventions in primary care, and epidemiological analysis of large datasets to identify opportunities to improve population health. We are also interested in the interface between patient preferences and evidence based health care, and on how context affects health care decisions. Our key areas of research are:
Multimorbidity, polypharmacy and integration of chronic disease management
Large scale pragmatic randomised trials of non-pharmaceutical interventions
Large population cohort studies and database analyses
Qualitative research with a focus on patient enablement
Global Burden of Disease
Fluid intake in care homes
Primary care in low and middle income countries
Causal inference and effect estimation with observational data.
Innovative Goal Setting
UEA researchers conducted a clinical trial of goal setting during GP consultations, funded by the NIHR. The results of the study informed an innovative course on goal-setting aimed at GPs, and available free on the FutureLearn website.
The course introduces goal-setting to improve the lives of those living with multimorbidity, and you will discover the practice of goal setting in a primary care context. You will learn what goal-setting is and how it can help those living with multimorbidity. Through three interactive sessions, you will you explore and understand the different steps of goal-setting and learn how to put it into practice with your patients.
