ABOUT
Norfolk Museums Service brings together 10 museums and a study centre. The collections, many of which are designated as nationally important, are home to 3.5 million artefacts that cover everything from natural history and archaeology to contemporary art.
These include:
- Norwich Castle, with its medieval keep and galleries of archaeology, natural history and contemporary art.
- Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse, home to the Museum of Norfolk Life.
- The Time & Tide Museum which explores the maritime heritage of Great Yarmouth.
PARTNERSHIP
UEA has worked with Norfolk Museums Service for many years on numerous exhibitions including ‘The Last Voyage of the Gloucester’ and the landmark display ‘Lines of Sight: W.G. Sebald’s East Anglia’, as well as workshops and events across the county. In 2018, we formalised our partnership, offering opportunities for work placements, co-supervised PhDs and support for PGCE and Early Years teaching programmes, as well as master classes and research events. We are also the academic partner of the Royal Palace Reborn project, a major National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported programme to reinstate the medieval floors and rooms at Norwich Castle and create a new visitor entrance, café and shop.
