Project Overview
This module enables registered health care professionals to develop enhanced knowledge and skills of paediatric consultation and structured clinical examination and assessment of infants, children and young people from 0-19 years. Enhanced clinical assessment skills will be developed alongside a holistic consideration to underpinning developmental, anatomical and physiological differences that are unique to the paediatric population. Learning will be structured utilising an inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation (IPPPA) approach of key body systems with frequent opportunity to practice and receive feedback on skills development using high fidelity paediatric manikins and equipment within a contemporary skills and simulation centre. An introduction to commonly presenting conditions unique to children and the associated pathophysiology and management will support practitioners in applying enhanced clinical assessment skills to autonomous decision making, diagnosis, management and/or escalation and referral. This module is suitable for trainee clinical paediatric advanced practitioner roles but will also be accessible as a stand-alone module for those clinicians who would like to develop enhanced clinical assessment skills, such as auscultation, for their own practice. Students must have clinical opportunities to assess infants, children and young people in their own practice settings.
This module advances your professional development by drawing on the four pillars of advanced practice: management and leadership, education, research and advanced clinical practice. It reinforces the core principle that advanced practice is a level of practice rather than a particular role. To join the module students will need to demonstrate the ability to study at level 7. This could be demonstrated through previous study at Level 7 and/or achievement of above 55% on a level 6 module and/or achievement of a 2:2 at level 6 BSc

Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules and regular (five-yearly) review of course programmes. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, there will normally be prior consultation of students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff or sabbatical leave. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will endeavour to inform students.
Every effort has been made to provide information that is current and accurate. Nevertheless, inadvertent errors in information may occur. The information contained in this webpage has been supplied from a variety of sources, and is subject to change.
Please ensure you check all module information and timetable provided through the official student information systems.
