Course Overview
The part-time MBA has established an excellent track record of attracting successful, mature professionals and business people from across East Anglia to study at UEA for over 30 years.
The overall aim of this part-time MBA is to develop your analytical and strategic management skills, using concepts derived from a wide range of academic disciplines, enabling you to respond creatively and effectively to the challenges of the business environment. It is designed to draw upon generic management knowledge and to develop the essential skills of analysis and critical reasoning and application, enabling you to add value to your organisations.
Developed to enable dynamic individuals to progress their careers to their full potential, it is aimed at those in middle to senior management positions within their organisations, who have the capacity to benefit from and diffuse new ideas.
It is taught part-time in the evenings and some weekends. You will study a broad range of taught modules in years 1 and 2, including two optional modules in year 2.
You will also study an integrative Management Consultancy Projects module. This involves a group-based consultancy project where you will work with an external client organisation to deliver a substantive written report and presentation addressing a topic of strategic importance chosen by the client. This project is over the course of a month and includes a week in a European location. A second project gives you the opportunity to act as an internal consultant for your employer. This is an extended research-based project of around three months again, concluded with a report and presentation around the theme of ‘What can I change around here?’.
The part-time MBA is designed for those who seek a programme which mixes theoretical knowledge with the realities of the workplace – a programme where group work and lectures are in natural combination and where the combined thoughts of first-class academics, experienced practitioners and fellow students are each valued as part of the teaching and learning experience.
The part time MBA is specifically designed for those who want to:
-
learn the theoretical models characteristic of a MBA programme, and in addition develop real skills and competences through your ability to apply knowledge
-
undertake a practical course of study with many opportunities to hear from leading-edge practitioners as well as research-led academics
-
network with other practising managers, professionals and entrepreneurs within the cohort and wider alumni group
-
be taught by internationally recognised and experienced lecturers who consistently achieve high evaluation scores from students
-
participate in units which are integrated around modern business issues rather than structured around traditional categories of academic knowledge
-
experience a wide range of approaches to teaching and learning and, through facilitation, benefit from the combined experience of fellow students
-
build your personal and professional skills with the help of a supportive career development service

Study and Modules
Compulsory Modules
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Teaching and Learning
Our teaching is informed by the latest research and real-world business experience, and is delivered by high-quality tutors in the Business School. You’ll learn to understand, evaluate and apply current thinking and develop the critical skills needed to take on a strategic leadership role within your current or future organisation.
Principally through the management consultancy projects, you will learn to deliver work of practical and real-world benefit to clients in a consultancy context. The team-based exercise demands that you develop high-level skills in high-performance team environments and the individual project demonstrates that you can be the catalyst for change in your own organisation.
The MBA is recognised as the gold-standard business and management qualification, and is highly prized by employers and those aspiring to positions of organisational leadership.
